Alabama HB20 & HB35

BACKGROUND: Alabama HB20 & HB35 would require that no public K-12 school "may participate in, sponsor, or provide coaching staff for interscholastic athletic events at which athletes are allowed to participate in competition against athletes who are of a different biological gender, unless the event specifically includes both biological genders; and to provide that neither the state or any of its political subdivisions may use or permit or allow to be used any property that it owns or controls for interscholastic athletic events at which athletes are allowed to participate in competition against athletes who are of a different biological gender, unless the event specifically includes both biological gender."

SUBJECT: Withdraw HB20/HB35

I am writing in strong opposition to HB20/HB35.

Policies at the high school level should prioritize access and participation for all youth. Alabama already has a policy that prevents boys from playing on girls’ teams and has one of the most restrictive policies in the country for transgender youth. This bill is unnecessary.

I ask you to withdraw HB20/HB35.
