States with new anti-trans sports laws

As of May 11, 2021, the following states have laws that would prevent trans youth from participating in sports with their peers:


Alabama

Arkansas

Idaho (enacted in 2020 session)

Mississippi

Montana

South Dakota - via Executive Order

Tennessee

West Virginia


Each of the states above made laws applying to K-12 participation. However, the following state laws apply to college student athletes:

Arkansas

Idaho (enacted in 2020 session)

Mississippi

West Virginia


Legislative sessions are winding down, but there are several more states that may pass laws before the end of the 2021 sessions.
